MB, Socastee dominate all-region, all-star rosters

The Myrtle Beach and Socastee High soccer teams are well represented on the All-Region 7-3A team and in the 2013 North-South Soccer Classic, which will be held June 23 at Daniel Island’s Blackbaud Stadium.

Myrtle Beach’s Mason Lewis was named the Region Player of the Year and Socastee coach Memo Suarez earned coach of the year honors. The two schools dominated the all-region squad with four players apiece on the first team.

Myrtle Beach’s Zach McMillan, Nolin Butler, Arly Barr and Lewis join Socastee’s Connor North-Baker, Will Caswell, Dimtri Leftis and Matt Trimby on the first team. Also on the list are St. James’ Conor Sloan and Chris Rice. (See the complete list below).

Myrtle Beach and Socastee also have two players apiece in the all-star soccer game, which pits the top seniors from the Upstate against those from the Lower State.

Representing Myrtle Beach will be McMillan from the No. 4-ranked boys team and Mary Beth Hervig from the Lady Seahawks. Both teams will compete in the state playoffs this week before playing in the all-star showcase.

The players will take part in the all-star weekend showcase with practices, a banquet and a Charleston Battery game on Saturday, June 22, before playing the games on Sunday, The girls game kicks at noon, followed by the boys at 2 p.m.
