Chiefs take charge in clutch, rally past West Brunswick

North Myrtle Beach wasn’t about to start another losing streak, and the Chiefs rose up in the second half to earn their second victory of the season in Friday night’s 21-7 victory over visiting West Brunswick (NC).

The Trojans appeared ready to send the Chiefs to their second straight defeat after snapping a 22-game losing streak in the season opener, but North Myrtle Beach showed it has the taste for winning in its system by shutting out its border rival in the second half.

West Brunswick came out strong and scored on its opening drive, creating doubts in the minds of those who have dared to believe in the Chiefs this season. But North Myrtle Beach’s backed it up by keeping the Trojans out of the end zone the rest of the way.

The Chiefs offense also got on track after a slow start. North Myrtle Beach star running back Delonzo Williams finally got the Chiefs on the scoreboard in the second period by breaking a 14-yard touchdown run that evened the score at 7-all.

Williams scored the game-winner in the third period with a 25-yard scoring run, but it took a strong stand by the Chiefs defense to preserve the lead. Donquail Livingston made a key sack to kill a drive in the fourth period and Chiefs running back Brandon Moore sealed the victory with a 49-yard TD jaunt.

Williams rushed for 154 of the Chiefs’ total tally of 364. The Chiefs (2-1) have a bye week on Friday.
