The Braves (1-4) suffered another heart-breaker on Friday night, falling to visiting Lake City 20-16 for their third straight close call.
The Panthers scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning touchdown with 5 minutes remaining in the game. Socastee was unable to mount a comeback after losing their third fumble of the game.
The Braves trailed 14-3 at halftime but quarterback Hunter Renfrow ran for a pair of touchdowns to give Socastee its first and only lead of the game. But Lake City quarterback Marquise Brown threw the game-winning TD Keith Adams
Socastee lost by a margin of a touchdown or less for the third consecutive week. The Braves lost 23-17 last week at Conway and 29-25 the week before at Ashley Bridge.
Socastee gets a week off before entering Region VII-AAA play on Sept. 30 at North Myrtle Beach.
