After wins over nationally ranked team in each of the past two weekend, the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team has cracked the national polls itself, coming in at 25th according to SoccerAmerica.
The Chanticleers (5-2) are currently ranked No. 6 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Atlantic Region and are receiving votes in the NSCAA and CollegeSoccerNews.com national polls.
Despite breaking a four-game win streak with a loss to Appalachian State on Friday, Coastal bounced back with a 2-0 win over the 21st-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday, their second win over a ranked opponent in a seven day span as CCU beat 16th-ranked VCU on Sept. 11.
Coastal is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA in total goals with 19, while forward Ashton Bennett ranks sixth in the nation with six total goals, including two against OSU.
Goalkeeper Scott Angevine leads the conference in save percentage (.818) and is tied for first with two shutouts.
The Chants return to the pitch on Friday to face Gardner-Webb (3-2-2) at 6 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Field. Gardner-Webb knocked off No. 20 Virginia Commonwealth and Wisconsin-Milwaukee last week to win the UAB Classic.
