Moody outduels President, Conway tops Wando

Conway quarterback Mykal Moody finally met his match in a showdown with Wando and highly recruited QB counterpart Jamel President, and he came out on top.

The junior threw for one touchdown and ran for two others, including the game-winning TD with 36 seconds remaining, to lead the Tigers to a 19-14 victory at Wando.

Moody took a shutgun snap and dived into the end zone from 1 yard out in the final minute to give the Tigers their first – and most importantly, last – lead of the game.

Moody’s earlier 1-yard TD run with 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter appeared to tie the game, but a blocked point-after conversion gave Wando a 14-13 advantage.

Wando tried to run out the clock but was unable to do so, giving Moody and the Tigers the ball back with one last chance. Moody led them down field to victory.
Wando led most of the game thanks to a pair of short TD runs by Steven Walker. Moody’s 27-yard TD pass to Cole Watson was Conway’s lone score until the fourth.

Moody outdueled President on the scoreboard and the stat sheet, completing 17 of 24 passes for 169 yards, rushing 26 times for 93 yards and accounting for all three TDs.

The Tigers (2-1) face county rival Socastee next week at The Backyard.
