The North Myrtle Beach varsity and junior varsity volleyball squads opened Region VIII-AAA schedule this past Tuesday at home with victories to each improve to an impressive 5-0 on the season.
The junior varsity squad scored a 2-0 win with scores of 25-20 and 25-22. The NMB varsity team posted a 3-1 win with scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-23.
North Myrtle Beach’s varsity squad entered the match knowing that they would be playing without leading hitter Taylor Allman. The junior, who leads the Lady Chiefs in kills, is out three weeks due to a non-athletic related injury.
Allman’s teammates responded with the victory over Socastee. Junior Pressley Fullum stepped into the starting lineup and performed well in filling Allman’s spot. Junior Moriah Jones and sophomore Ellen Johnson led the Lady Chiefs attack as NMB powered past the Lady Braces.
The North Myrtle Beach JV program came in 4-0 on the season and on a 14-game winning streak after finishing the 2010 season undefeated.
Socastee’s JV squad was 4-0 as well, and presented a worthy opponent for the Chiefs. However, the Chiefs pulled out the win, needing just two games to finish the match.
