Braves beat Wilson to put playoff berth within reach

Socastee shook off a season of frustration to score a huge 28-12 region victory over Wilson on Friday night at Florence’s Memorial Stadium.

The Braves (3-6 overall, 2-2 Region VIII-AAA) put themselves in position to clinch a playoff berth next week with a win over rival St. James by beating the Tigers in their own backyard.

Socastee running back Daquan Brown rushed for 143 yards and backfield mate Adam Crane tallied three touchdowns as the Braves broke open a tight game in the second half.

Clinging to a 13-12 lead, Brown broke an 80-yard carry to the Wilson 1-yard-line and Crane did the honors on the next play to put the Braves up 21-12. Crane scored on another TD run in the fourth period to ice the victory.

Socastee, which has lost four games by a touchdown or less this season, can lock up the fourth and final playoff spot by beating the Sharks next week.
