Another week, another chance to honor three local student-athletes for their sports successes in the Mammy’s Kitchen Athlete of the Week Award.
With the fall sports season winding down, there is no shortage of great players to choose from. It’s like Mammy’s Kitchen’s breakfast and lunch buffet, so many good choices.
This week’s three finalists include:
* Taylor Childress, North Myrtle Beach, Tennis: The Lady Chiefs’ No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles player remained undefeated on the season with straight sets victories against Wilson and Green Sea Floyds, improving to 12-0 in regular season matches.
* Danny Daly, Carolina Forest, Football: The Panthers quarterback threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in the Panthers’ 47-7 victory over Lugoff-Elgin in their region opener last Friday. He has 21 TD passes to only one interception this season.
* Shelby Sheets, Myrtle Beach, Volleyball: Sophomore hitter had 23 kills in the Lady Seahawks’ sweeps of region rivals Socastee and St. James. Myrtle Beach remained undefeated in region play, sweeping all eight opponents it has faced this season.
