Coastal opened the game with a 30-yard shot from Pedro Ribeiro that slipped underneath the crossbar for a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute. Ribeiro received a pass from Shawn McLaws, which he one touched before ripping the blast for his third goal of the year.
Reigning Big South Attacking Player of the Week, TeeJay East added his fourth goal in three games to put the Chants up 2-0 in the 49th minute. A Robby Joe Daniels throw-in initiated the scoring play as his toss found the box where an open East one touched the point blank goal.
Senior goalie Scott Angevine had five saves and his third shutout of the season moving him into sole possession of third place on the all-time shutout list in Coastal Carolina history with 14. The Kansas City, Kan. native only needs two more clean sheets to tie the all-time record of 16 held by Chris Malinky (1997-2000) and Neal Robinson (1993-96)
The Panthers totaled 17 shots compared to 14 from the Chants while the two teams combined for 25 fouls. High Point was issued for three yellow cards while Coastal was booked for two.
Coastal improves to 10-2-0, including a perfect 4-0-0 in the Big South while High Point drops to 4-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Big South.
The 20th-ranked Chanticleers return to the pitch Saturday, Oct. 15 in Asheville, N.C. where they will face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m.
