The North Myrtle Beach girls tennis team looks pretty in pink, winning Wednesday’s match over Green Sea Floyds using pink balls to raise awareness for breast cancer.
But don’t mistake the warm, fuzzy feelings for a sign of softness; these Lady Chiefs are on the warpath this season.
Led by undefeated No. 1 singles star Taylor Childress, North Myrtle Beach wiped the court with the Lady Trojans on Wednesday, one day after beating Wilson on Tuesday.
North Myrtle Beach finished second to Wilson in the conference last season, but showed it is up for the test this year by whitewashing Wilson 6-1.
In addition to Childress’ 6-0, 6-3 victory, No. 2 singles Caitlyn Wolf battled to a 7-5, 5-7, 11-9 tiebreaker win and the No. 2 doubles team of team of Rae Berry and Callie Gore also won their long match at 6-1, 5-7, 10-6.
In other singles action for North Myrtle Beach, No. 3 Amanda HIll won 6-3, 6-0; No. 4 Sydney Orwig lost 3-6, 2-6; and No. 5 Amber Mincey won 6-1, 6-1. The Lady Chiefs also won No. 1 doubles by forfeit.
North Myrtle Beach stayed hot (or hot pink) on Wednesday by beating Green Sea Floyds 6-1. Childress won 6-1, 6-0, Wolf battled to a 3-6, 7-6, 10-3 victory, Hill won 6-2, 6-2 and Orwig won 7-6, 6-4 to give the Lady Chiefs the top four singles victories.
Berry played No. 5 singles and lost a heart-breaker at 6-4, 5-7, 4-10. Winning at No. 2 doubles was Anna Coggeshall and Callie Gore with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
The Lady Chiefs travel to St, James for their next match and will hold another breast cancer awareness match at home against Myrtle Beach on Oct. 18.
