Freshman Lian Bernett was named to the All-Big South Freshman Team and sophomore Lauren Alejo was selected to the Big South All-Academic Team.
Bernett completed the regular season with 267 kills, 208 digs, 27 blocks, 26 service aces and 25 assists in 93 sets played. She heads into the conference tournament ranked fifth in the Big South Conference in kills with an average of 2.87 a set and she is 10th in service aces with a 0.28 average per set. She is second on the team in kills and tied for second in service aces. Lian is fourth on the team in points with a total of 306.5.
Bernett has recorded seven double-doubles on the season and tallied a career high 20 kills vs. UNC Asheville on Oct. 21, 17 digs vs. Winthrop on Oct. 28, four service aces against the Citadel on Oct. 25 and four blocks against UNC Greensboro on Aug. 26. She earned her first All-Tournament team honor at the UNC Greensboro Tournament that was played Aug. 26-27.
Alejo, a biology major, holds a 3.905 grade point average and has been a member of the Presidents List, Deans List, Phi Eta Sigma and the Golden Key Society. She received the Honors Excellence Award and took third place for the first year writing award.
On the court, Alejo has grabbed 217 digs, which is third on the team. She is also third on the team in assists with 146 and is tied for second in service aces with 26. Alejo has additionally posted 11 kills, three blocks and 38.5 points.
Coastal finished the regular season with a 13-19 overall record and the Chants went 5-9 in Big South Conference action. The Chanticleers will be playing Winthrop in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament in Charleston , S.C. on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. The tournament will commence with the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
