CCU’s Norman earns Big South award for defense

Coastal Carolina cornerback Josh Norman has been selected as the Big South Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for his play in last Saturday’s 15-8 victory over Presbyterian College.

Norman, a native of Greenwood, finished the game with five solo tackles, one interception, one quarterback hurry and a blocked field goal in Coastal Carolina’s final home game of the season.

On PC’s first drive, Norman intercepted a pass deep in CCU territory for his 13th career pick. On the final drive of the third quarter and with Coastal down, 8-7, Norman blocked a 42-yard field goal attempt.

And on the second-to-last play of the game with Presbyterian on the Chanticleer 14-yard line, Norman blitzed from his corner spot to force Blue Hose quarterback Ryan Singer to throw the ball away for an incompletion.

In other BSC weekly awards, VMI quarterback Eric Kordenbrock was named Offensive Player of the Week, Liberty kick returner/defensive back Kevin Fogg was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week and Gardner-Webb defensive back Ivan Toomer is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.
