Already off to its best start in 30 years, Coastal Carolina will look to remain undefeated when it travels to Clemson for an in-state rivalry game.
The Chanticleers (4-0) are in search of their second win against a major-conference opponent after a 71-63 victory over LSU last week, while the Tigers hope to avoid a second consecutive loss to an in-state opponent after a 82-79 home loss to College of Charleston on Saturday. Clemson has won all five meetings, most recently in 2002.
The Chants are off to their best start since winning eight straight to start the 1981-82 season, which they finished with a 21-9 mark. After holding off LSU on Tuesday, Coastal pounded Division III Spalding 87-43 on Friday, shooting a blistering 68 percent (32-of-47) as Chris Gradnigo led three players in double figures with 17 points.
The Tigers (2-1) erased most of a 15-point halftime deficit before falling to College of Charleston when Andre Young’s 3-pointer in the final seconds missed the mark. Devin Booker had his third career double-double against the Cougars with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Clemson’s defensive intensity dropped off against College of Charleston. After holding opponents below 31 percent shooting and to an average of 47 points in the first two games, Clemson gave up 82 points and 51.7 percent shooting against the Cougars.
Through Sunday, Coastal Carolina ranked 11th in the nation in scoring (89.5 points per game), sixth in field goal percentage (54.3) and third in rebounds (49 per game).
The game will air live on Fox Sports South at 9 p.m.
