Senior-laden Lady Sharks look to take it to next level

The St. James girls basketball team looks to take the next step this season, and the Lady Sharks have the experience and senior leadership it takes to get there.

St. James finished second in Region VIII-AAA to two-time state champion Myrtle Beach, which lost five seniors off last year’s squad.

Conversely, the Lady Sharks will welcome back five seniors from last year’s 17-6 squad that lost to Dreher in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Returning to help St. James take it to the next level are seniors Stephanie Roberts, who averaged 15 points per game last season, and classmate Briahna Dickerson, who tallied 11 points per contest.

They will be joined by fellow senior starters Monica Smalls and Charisma Rodriquez, and senior newcomer Keyana Rutledge should provide support and more senior leadership.

Sophomore Nicole Meyers also moves up to the varsity squad in hopes of providing some depth on the senior-laden squad.

“If we can stay healthy and develop some depth, we should have a chance to make the playoffs,” said St. James coach Stan Patterson.

The Lady Sharks will begin their quest for a successful season on Friday at Conway.
