The Carolina Forest girls basketball team played its fourth game in five days on Saturday and walked away with its third victory of the week.
The Lady Panthers scored a 43-35 win over visiting Socastee, doubling the Lady Braves’ offensive output in the fourth quarter by a 14-7 margin to break open the tight game.
Carolina Forest’s Marisa Runyon led a balanced Lady Panthers’ attack with a team-high 11 points and teammate Katelyn Beaty added nine points to the winning effort.
Socastee (4-2) got a game-high 16 points from Blake Smith and Kirstin Zanardo chipped in 11 points. The Lady Braves host Waccamaw on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers (4-2) face a rematch with North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday. Carolina Forest defeated the Lady Chiefs in overtime last Tuesday.
* Boys: The Carolina Forest boys basketball team won its fourth game in five days to start the season, defeating visiting Socastee 56-47 on Saturday.
Carolina Forest’s JahZavier Anerson scored a game-high 16 points and Robert Gray added 13 points as the Panthers improved to 4-0 on the young season.
Socastee’s Travis Frye scored a team-high 14 points and Donnovan Cann chipped in 10 in the losing effort as the Braves dropped to 3-2 on the year.
Socastee welcomes Waccamaw to town on Tuesday while the Panthers face North Myrtle Beach on the road.
