NMB boys, girls capture third place at Shootout by the Sea

The North Myrtle Beach boys and girls basketball teams took third place in the annual basketball tournament they host – the Shootout by the Sea.

The Lady Chiefs scored a 49-37 victory over Clover on Friday to claim third place. Taylor Allman paced North Myrtle Beach with a game-high 22 points while Ja’Quella Livingston scored 10 points and India Farmer added eight points and 12 rebounds.

“Taylor played a really good defensive game that helped her produce on offense, and India did a great job on the boards to not give them extra shots,” North Myrtle Beach girls coach Jude Hunt said. “This is the best we’ve done in this tournament. We would have liked to win it, but we are pleased with our effort.”

Clover’s Bria Huffman scored a game-high 20 points and four rebounds as the Lady Chiefs won the battle of the boards by a 36-21 margin.

In boys action, the Chiefs were led by Juquan Grissett’s 25 points to beat Summerville 62-54 in the third-place game. Teammate Rodrick Hemingway registered a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Summerville’s J.D. Tucker matched Grissett’s 25-point output and teammate Brandon Wilkerson also posted a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
