NMB boys, girls falter in Shootout by the Sea semis

For the eighth consecutive season, North Myrtle Beach will not be crowned champion of its own tournament – the Shootout by the Sea.

The Chiefs suffered a 53-42 loss to Nation Ford in the boys semifinals and the Lady Chiefs suffered a 52-48 defeat to Scotland County (N.C.) to drop to the consolation bracket of the tourney they host annually.

Playing in Thursday’s nightcap in front of a home crowd, the Chiefs trailed 37-30 entering the fourth quarter and couldn’t pull off a comeback against the Scots.

North Myrtle Beach was led by Josh Lindsay’s 10 points, while Jaquan Grissett added nine points and Rodrick Hemingway pulled down 12 rebounds and tallied 8 points.

Nation Ford got a double-double from Andrew Komornik with a game-high 13 points and 12 boards, and A.J. Jackson added 10 points to the winning cause. The Falcons will face the Hoggard (N.C.)-Summerville winner in the title game at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Chiefs trailed their game 39-30 entering the fourth period and were able to close the gap to four points before falling short in the end.

North Myrtle Beach was led by Kendrick Bellamy’s 13 points and Ja’Quella Livingston and India Farmer added 10 apiece. Livingston grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to just miss out on a double-double, and Taylor Allman added nine rebounds.

In the other girls semifinal, Sumter knocked off Clover to set up a title showdown with Scotland County at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lady Chiefs will play Clover in Friday’s third-place game.
