Carolina Forest sweeps Loris

The Carolina Forest girl won for the second consecutive night to open the season by defeating visiting Loris 62-46 on Wednesday night at The Black Hole.

Marisa Runyon and Jackie Brengel scored 23 points a piece to match the Lady Lions’ output by themselves. Brengel also pulled down 11 rebounds to post a double-double and Runyon added nine boards to fall one shy of the mark.

The Lady Panthers (2-0) play their third game in four nights on Friday when they play host to two-time defending state champion Myrtle Beach.

Carolina Forest opened the season Tuesday with an overtime victory over North Myrtle Beach. The Lady Panthers travel to play the Lady Chiefs on Tuesday.

* Boys: The Panthers shook off a slow start to score a blowout 86-42 victory over visiting Loris and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Loris actually led after the first period 12-11 and the game was tied at 22-all before the Panthers heated up from the field and ran away from the Lions. They built a 40-28 lead at halftime and outscored Loris 46-14 in the second half.

Four Panthers scored in double figures, including Robert Gray, Will Brunson and Logan Helgerson with 12 apiece and Aaron Williams and Melquan Nelson added 11 each.

Carolina Forest host Myrtle Beach on Friday.
