Chants open tennis season with win over The Citadel

The Coastal Carolina defeated The Citadel 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel campus.

“This was a solid start to the season,” said Chanticleers coach Chris Power, who is entering his 11th season at Coastal Carolina. “Improvement is the key to our season and I think today’s match was indicative of the work we have put in at practice over the last three weeks.”

Coastal Carolina won two of the three doubles matches with Matias Di Pasquale and Yusuke Kusuda defeating Atkinson and Bleach 8-1. John Karle and Sam Barr knocked off Howle and Sperr 8-5.

The Chanticleers won five of the six matches all in straight sets. Playing at the No. 2 slot, Leo Christofides defeated Bleach 7-6, 6-2. Kusuda lost only one game against Atkinson to win 6-0, 6-1.
