CCU announces signings of WR Blanks, RB Henderson

Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia announced the addition of two student-athletes to the program on Tuesday.

Tyrell Blanks (Fort Myers, Fla.) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Chanticleers and is currently enrolled at CCU, and 2011 signee DeAngelo Henderson (Summerville High School) has qualified and enrolled at the school.

Blanks, a 5-foot-10 wide receiver from South Fort Myers High School, will be considered a true freshman for the 2012 season and will be able to participate with the team in all spring activities.

Blanks spent the 2011 Fall semester at Atlanta Sports Academy, catching 16 passes for 332 yards with two touchdowns at the prep school. As a senior at South Fort Myers, he caught 19 passes for 389 yards, averaging an impressive 20.47 yards per catch, with four touchdowns.

Blanks helped the Wolfpack to a 12-1 record in 2010, reaching the 2A semifinals. As a junior, he had 20 receptions for 288 yards, an average of 15.5 per catch, with two scores.

Blanks was also a track & field standout, earning honorable mention Naples Daily News All-Region in track & field as a sprinter. He additionally anchored a 4×400 relay team that placed second in the Florida 2A State Championship.

Henderson, the 2010 South Carolina Coaches Association Class 4A Running Back of the Year, will also be considered a true freshman for the 2012 season and be able to participate in spring activities.

Both players were in the process of playing for Coastal before the coaching change from David Bennett to Moglia, who has managed to keep the two commitments.

The Chants have three weeks and a small staff to wrap up recruiting for next fall’s class. The NCAA national signing day for football is set for Feb. 1.
