North Myrtle Beach’s Jaquan Grissett’s jumper in the lane with 6.3 seconds remaining and a last-second block by Matt Lindsey gave the Chiefs a 48-47 victory over visiting Wilson on Tuesday night.
The Chiefs (10-8 overall, 2-5 Region VIII-AAA) upset of the Tigers (14-7, 5-2) puts them back in the thick of the battle for a playoff spot. North Myrtle Beach is currently fifth in the region standings with the top four teams earning postseason bids.
Trailing 47-46 in the final minute, North Myrtle Beach forced Wilson into a turnover with just 26 seconds remaining on the clock. Following a pair of timeouts by the Chiefs, Grissett drove to the middle of the lane and elevated for the jumper from 10 feet to put the Chiefs on top.
Wilson’s Patrell Rogers drove to the basket and was fouled on the floor by the Chiefs’ Rodrick Hemingway but NMB was not over the limit, giving the Tigers the ball out of bounds with just two seconds remaining. Wilson got the ball to Alandre Davis inside but Matt Lindsey blocked the shot out of bounds as the buzzer sounded.
Grissett led four NMB players in double digits with 14 points. Matt Lindsey, Josh Lindsey and Hemingway each added 10 points each. Wilson’s Braxton Ivery led all scorers with 22 points.
