Sharks win, stay atop region

The St. James boys and girls basketball teams scored a sweep of Georgetown on Tuesday night to maintain their spots atop the Region VIII-AAA srandings.

The No. 5-ranked Lady Sharks (18-3 overall, 7-0 region) cruised to an easy 64-39 victory over the Lady Bulldogs behind a balanced scoring effort.

St. James got a game-high 19 points from Keyana Rutledge and a double-double from Monica Smalls with 10 points and rebounds. Stephanie Roberts scored 13 points and Brianha Dickerson added 12.

The Lady Sharks play host to defending state and region champion Myrtle Beach at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the boys game.

The Sharks took sole possession of first place in the region Tuesday night thanks to a combination of their 59-45 victory over the Bulldogs and Wilson’s loss at North Myrtle Beach.
