The St. James and Conway basketball teams split Friday night’s intra-county clash between the two schools at the Shark Tank.
The Lady Sharks rolled to an 80-32 victory over the Lady Tigers while Conway’s boys came up with a 55-53 win over the St. James.
In the girls game, Stephanie Roberts led four Lady Sharks in double figures with a team-high 16. Brianna Dickerson scored 13, Kiana Rutledge tallied 12, Brihana Dickerson 13, and Eldreonna Hannah added 11. Conway was led by Bri Steele’s 13 and Danielle Langley contributed 10.
In an exciting boys game, the Tigers held off a late comeback by the Sharks, who cut a double-digit deficit to as close as 2 in the final minute. St. James trailed by as many as 12 in the third period before its comeback came up just short.
The Sharks were led by Jacob Wright’s game-high 18 and Caleb Duggan added 11 but missed a pair of potential game-tying free throws in the final seconds. Conway was led by Kahmil Cooper’s 16 points, Torrence Evans’ 12 and Devin Strothers’ 11.
Conway hosts its biggest rival, Myrtle Beach, on Satuday. St. James opens Region VII-AAA play Monday at North Myrtle Beach.
