The No. 1-ranked St. James Sharks wrestling team has had the date Feb. 8 circled on their collective calendar for a full year.
Ever since falling to Chapin in the 2011 Class 3A Lower State Championship, the Sharks vowed to not only get back to the same point this year but to win it.
They are halfway there following Monday night’s 62-18 victory over visiting Bluffton in the second round of the Class 3A state tournament at the Shark Tank.
St. James made quick work of the No. 10-ranked Bobcats, paving the way to Wednesday’s Lower State Finals. Best of all, the Sharks will get a rematch with Chapin, which defeated Socastee in the other Lower State semi.
The No. 3 Eagles will host the Sharks in the showdown with the winner advancing to the state championship to face the winner of Wednesday’s Upper State Finals between West Oak and Belton Honea-Path.
