Brian Bryant hit a short jumper as time expired in overtime and the Bulldogs snapped a five-game losing streak with a much-needed 69-67 conference road victory on Wednesday night.
Bryant finished with a team-high 16 points for Mississippi State (20-10, 7-8 SEC) and thwarted a valiant upset bid by South Carolina (10-19, 2-13) when he rolled off a screen by Arnett Moultrie on an inbound play and floated the ball high off the glass.
Referees took a short while before ultimately determining that time expired after the ball left Bryant’s hands.
Moultrie posted his SEC-best 19th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Renardo Sidney added his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Dee Bost finished with 11 assists, including the pass that led to Bryant’s game-winner for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-6 away from home in conference play.
Bruce Ellington finished with a game-high 17 points for South Carolina, which has dropped four straight and nine of its last 10 to remain at the bottom of the SEC.
