Lady Braves’ upset bid falls short at Hilton Head Island

The Socastee High girls basketball team gave top-seeded Hilton Head Island all it could handle and more in Monday night’s first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

But after leading for much of the game, including entering the fourth quarter, the fourth-seeded Lady Braves came out on the losing end of a 40-30 score.

The Lady Seahawks (20-5) shut down Socastee in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Braves (11-13) by a 14-2 margin in the final frame to end Socastee’s season.

Blake Smith scored a game-high 16 points – more than half of her team’s total. Hilton Head Island’s Sabrina Drammas matched her with 16 of her own, with many coming in the decisive fourth period.
