Sharks’ season comes to an end in depths of Lake Marion

Just two weeks ago, the St. James boys basketball team was living the dream. It all came to a nightmarish halt on Tuesday night.

The Sharks lost their fourth game in their past five outings in a surprisingly lopsided 74-53 loss to second-seeded Lake Marion in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament.

St. James was led by Caleb Duggan’s 18 points and Matt Strange’s 15.

The Sharks were sitting atop Region VIII-AAA two weeks ago before losing to Wilson, Myrtle Beach and Socastee and settling for the No. 3 playoff seed.

The cold spell continued to haunt the Sharks on the road at Lake Marion. The Gators improved to 19-5 and advance to face No. 1 seed Darlington in the second round.
