Braves make statement as regular season winds down

For the Socastee High boys lacrosse team, this is the playoffs.

Banned from the postseason because the Braves draw from too many students from schools throughout Horry County, Socastee made a statement in rolling to a 13-5 victory over the Charleston LaCrosse Club on Tuesday night in Charleston.

Tyler Keane scored five goals and dished out three assists to lead the Braves (4-5) to victory of the collection of players from the Charleston area. The SCHSL recently ruled that Socastee has access to too many possible players to meet the region alignment figures for lacrosse.

Also getting into the giving and receiving act for the Braves Tuesday night were T.J. Lazaroff, who scored a hat trick and also dealt an assist, and Jiovany Rendon, who scored one goal and made two assists.

Socastee’s Nick Borriello scored a pair of goals and two Braves scored their first goals of the season – Daquon Brown and Matt Chatfield.

Socastee can make an even stronger statement by closing out the regular season this weekend with a pair of victories, which would allow the Braves to finish the season over .500.

The Braves play host to Bluffton on Friday and Hilton Head Island on Saturday to finish the regular season.
