Carolina Forest’s Merriam leads blowout of Lady Sharks

The Carolina Forest softball team scored an impressive victory Tuesday night, blowing out visiting St. James 9-1.

Lady Panthers starting pitcher Emily Merriam (1-0) scattered seven strikeouts, six hits and four walks over seven innings to get the win. She also helped her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Merriman (1-0) also got some offensive support from teammates Sara Sweat, who went a perfect 4-for-4 on the night with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Marsia Runyon, who went 3-for-4 with five RBIs with a home run.

The Lady Panthers (2-0) was clinging to a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when the broke out for three runs in that frame. Carolina Forest tacked on fur more runs in the sixth to cap the blowout win.

The Lady Sharks (0-2) were led by Megan Grant’s 2-for2 night at the plate, and she also scored St. James’ lone run. Rebecca Prosser went 2-for-3 and Hannah Price went 1-for-3 with an RBI on the night.
