Quolas, who has received the award for the third time this season, posted a 2-1 record on the weekend at the USF Under Armour Tournament in Clearwater , Fla. She opened the event with a 1-0 shutout win over Long Island on March 16. Quolas pitched a complete game, striking out four, allowing just one walk and three hits in 27 batters faced, while holding the Blackbirds to a .125 batting average. Quolas also had two putouts and one assist in the game.
After posting six strikeouts in a 3-0 loss to Kent State on Saturday, March 17, Quolas bounced back and posted her second shutout of the week with a career high eight strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Bryant in five innings on Sunday, March 18. During the win Quolas didn’t allow a walk and gave up just three hits in 18 batters faced, holding the Bulldogs to a .167 batting average. She also had one hit, one RBI and two runs in the victory.
Overall, Quolas pitched 19.0 innings, striking out 18, allowing just two walks, 13 hits and holding the opponents to a 1.83 batting average. Quolas finished the weekend with a 0.74 ERA.
Heading into the weekend Quolas was ranked second in the nation in earned run average with a 0.45, which was two one hundreds off of Lauren Schmalz from Auburn who was leading the nation with a 0.43 and she was ninth in hits allowed per seven innings with a 3.6.
Coastal returns to action on Wednesday at the College of Charleston for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
