Coastal answered in the top of the third when Kory Hayden hit her 10th home run of the season to put her tied for ninth on the single season record list for home runs.
Brooke Donovan and Maples scored on Hayden’s home run to make it a 3-2 game. The Chanticleers extended their lead when Sara Rasley hit a home run to center field that also scored Cacia Pierre and Kiana Quolas to put the score at 6-2.
During the fourth inning Hayden recorded her second hit in three at bats to right center field that allowed Beth Kassuhn to advance home, giving Coastal a five run lead. Pierre then hit her second home run of the season to right center field, scoring Quolas and Hayden, putting the Chants ahead 10-2.
Desiree Zaragoza, had a strong debut, as she hit a home run to center field on the first pitch to her during the fifth inning to give Coastal the 11-2 lead.
Presbyterian reached base only twice during the final three innings, as Hopper reached on a single in the third inning and Lyndsey York was walked in the fifth inning.
Hayden finished the game with two hits, four RBI and two runs in three at bats. Pierre recorded two hits, three RBI and two runs in three at bats during the win. Rasley had two hits, three RBI and one run in three at bats.
Quolas earned the win in the circle after pitching five innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing three hits in 19 batters faced.
Leslie Hensley took the loss for the Blue Hose after pitching 2.2 innings in which she did not allow a walk, while giving up five hits in 15 batters faced.
Coastal returns to action on Wednesday, March 28 at home in a doubleheader against Charleston Southern. The Chanticleers will be playing in their first Big South Conference home series when they face the Buccaneers. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
