Lady Panthers stay unbeaten with blowout of St. James

The Carolina Forest softball team continued its undefeated season Wednesday night with a 10-1 mercy-rile victory over visiting St. James.

The Lady Panthers (9-0) once again displayed a powerful offensive punch along with virtually untouchable pitching, exploding for five runs in the first inning.

Carolina Forest pitcher Emily Merriam allowed her only run of the game in the fourth inning before finishing with a five-inning three-hitter in the non-region contest.

That’s because her teammates added three runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the fifth before enacting the mercy rule.

Carolina Forest’s Sara Sweatt, Caitlyn Hummel and Marisa Runyon had three hits apiece to lead the Lady Panthers’ 15-hit attack. Merriam helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
