Lady Seahawks take tough loss in rain to R.J. Reynolds

The Myrtle Beach High girls soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss to visiting R.J. Reynolds of North Carolina on Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Seahawks (4-4) held the Lady Demons in check for most of the day as the two teams battled to a scoreless first half in rainy conditions.

But R.J. Reynolds finally broke the deadlock at the 52-minute mark when Celena Greer made a leaping header into the net off a corner kick and an assist from Evanne Timberlake.

That was the lone goal of the day as Myrtle Beach goalkeeper Jessica Deforge turned away all other attempts and made four saves on the day.

The Lady Seahawks face a key region showdown with St. James at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
