The Conway High softball won its season opener against rival Myrtle Beach on Thursday night, but it didn’t come easily.
The Lady Tigers (1-0) pounded out 14 hits and jumped out to an 8-1 lead over the Lady Seahawks but had to hold off a late rally for an 8-7 home victory.
Conway pitcher Breanna Van Deusen (1-0) buckled down in the final inning to cap a complete-game victory. She scattered six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts.
Van Deusen also helped her own cause at the plate, hitting a two-run home run as part of Conway’s early explosion.
Teammate Kady Edwards also hit a two-run homer, Madison Gore contributed three hits and Ashlyn Hardwick had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
Baseball
Conway pitcher Jordy Lee threw six shutout innings of one-hit baseball as the Tigers (1-0) won their season opener with a 7-0 victory over visiting rival Myrtle Beach.
