Van Deusen, Lee hurl gems as Tigers sweep Seahawks

The Conway High softball won its season opener against rival Myrtle Beach on Thursday night, but it didn’t come easily.

The Lady Tigers (1-0) pounded out 14 hits and jumped out to an 8-1 lead over the Lady Seahawks but had to hold off a late rally for an 8-7 home victory.

Conway pitcher Breanna Van Deusen (1-0) buckled down in the final inning to cap a complete-game victory. She scattered six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts.

Van Deusen also helped her own cause at the plate, hitting a two-run home run as part of Conway’s early explosion.

Teammate Kady Edwards also hit a two-run homer, Madison Gore contributed three hits and Ashlyn Hardwick had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
