Carolina Forest’s Peter Gennaro, coming off a hat trick performance earlier this week, scored a pair of goals in a less than 2 minute span to lift the Panthers, but it was the courageous play of teammate Austin Turbeville that inspired the team late.
After a goal by Fernando Abrigo gave the Panthers a 1-0 halftime lead, Conway’s Ashton McCants tied it up with a goal at the 47-minute mark. The game remained deadlocked until an injured Turbeville re-entered at the 72-minute mark.
Moments later, Genarro scored an unassisted goal that proved to be the game-winner. He then converted an assist from JT Cuomo for an insurance goal that the Panthers made stand up.
Carolina Forest goalkeeper Paul Blayton returned to the lineup, making four saves to improve the Panthers’ record to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in the region. The Panthers will be the No. 2 seed from Region VI-AAAA.
