The Carolina Forest boys and girls soccer squads earned a split at Sumter, with the Lady Panthers suffering a 2-1 loss and the Panthers taking a 3-0 victory over the Gamecocks on Tuesday.
Peter Gennaro scored a hat trick and goalkeeper Mike Petrizzo posted the shutout as the Panthers (7-8 overall, 5-2 Region VI-AAAA) secured their spot in second place in the region standings.
Gennaro scored on an assist from J.T. Cuomo at the 29-minute mark as Carolina Forest carried a 1-0 advantage into the intermission.
At the 63-minute mark, Gennaro was fouled in the goal box and converted the penalty kick for a 2-0 lead. He capped the scoring and the hat trick off an assist from Xavier Vera at the 73-minute mark.
The Lady Panthers suffered their second consecutive region loss by one goal after falling to first-place West Florence 5-4 on Friday.
Carolina Forest returns to region action on Friday with a visit to rival Conway for a boys/girls doubleheader.
