Myrtle Beach High’s EJ Goings won the boys 800 meters and finished second in the 400 meters Saturday in the Beach Run Invitational held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Goings was among several local athletes to shine in the prestigious national tournament, featuring 45 teams from across the Eastern U.S. He led the Seahawks to a 10th-place finish, the only local team to place in the top 10.
In the girls overall, Carolina Forest finished 16th, North Myrtle Beach was 20th and St. James finished 29th. In the boys, Carolina Forest and St. James finished tied for 14th.
Newark Tech (N.J.) won the girls overall title with 91 points while Wayne (Ind.) captured the boys title. The Most Outstanding Track Athletes were Devonte Kinlaw of Aynor (S.C.) for the boys and Jennifer Cannon of Tennessee High School for the girls.
The Most Outstanding Field Athletes were Jamario Calhoun of Cedar Shoals (Ga.) for the boys and Kristen Sansbury of Hartsville (S.C.) for the girls.
