Conway rallied from behind and then had to hold off a rally by Akron (Ohio) Ellet for a 7-6 victory in the Grand Strand Softball Classic on Thursday.
Trailing 3-0 late in the game, the Lady Tigers (8-8) exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to build a big lead.
But Ellet responded with three runs on four hits in the seventh frame with the potential tying and game-winning runs on base.
But Conway pitcher Breanna Van Deusen got out of the jam to preserve the win. She struck out five batters but allowed 10 hits in the game.
The Lady Tigers also pounded out 10 hits, led by Madison Gore (2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI), Kady Edwards (2-for-4 with a two-RBI double) and Erin Skipper (2-for-4 with a double).
Conway’s Brandye Huggins (1-for-4, RBI), Coker Edge (1-for-4,RBI), Van Deusen (1-for-3, RBI) and Monica Wright (1-for-3, RBI) had one hit and one RBI apiece.
The Lady Tigers play again at 8 a.m. Friday at the Market Common complex looking to run their record over the .500 mark.
