St. James close to clinching with sweep of Georgetown

The St. James girls and boys soccer teams scored a sweep over Georgetown on Tuesday to improve their region standings.

The Lady Sharks (14-4-1 overall, 7-0 region) took one step closer to clinching the Region VIII-AAA crown and remained unbeaten in region play with a 5-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

St. James’ Jullianna Natali and Jenny Breeden scored two goals apiece and Julia Carriker added the other. Goalkeeper Rhylee DeCrane made one save in posting the shutout.

The St. James boys battled to a 2-1 victory over the host Bulldogs, using goals by Keaton Zimmer and Tristan Fields to move into third place in the region race.

The Sharks (6-8, 4-3) got an assist from John Santos and five saves from goalkeeper Haywood Brandon to hold on until the game was called early due to lightning.

St. James plays host to Myrtle Beach on Friday with both teams looking to secure playoff spots.
