Coastal Carolina senior Diana Mortlock has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Mortlock is the third Coastal spring sports athlete to earn Big South weekly honors this week. CCU baseball’s Rich Witten and softball’s Chelsea Pineda took the awards in their respective sports.
Mortlock finished the week with a perfect 4-0 record at both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, leading the Chanticleers to a 3-1 record. Her and partner Miki Bunea started the week off with an 8-5 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette, before she topped Erin Wilbert in singles, 6-2, 6-0.
A day later vs. Charleston Southern, Mortlock and Bunea swept Alexandra Walters and Yvonne Hubler, while also earning a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Angelica Sidorenko in singles. In the 7-0 sweep over East Carolina, Mortlock and Bunea earned the doubles point with an 8-1 win, and then took the singles point over Renata Bakieva, 6-4, 6-2.
She ended her week by topping Emily McNall and Christin Boissevain, 8-1, before knocking off Amryn Soldier, 6-1, 6-1.
The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis will be competing in the Big South Conference Championship beginning Thursday, April 19 at Asheville Raquet Club. The third-seeded Chants will play sixth-seeded Liberty at 3:30 p.m.
