The Carolina Forest softball team advanced to the winners’ bracket of the Class AAAA Lower State tournament on Monday with a shutout victory over host Summerville.
The Lady Panthers took a 5-0 decision over the Lady Green Wave thanks to a complete-game two-hitter by pitcher Rachel Lembcke and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate by Marisa Runyon.
Runyon drove in a run and scored in the Lady Panthers’ three-run third inning, then she brought home another run in the two-run fourth to cap the scoring. Lembcke struck out eight batters to earn the win.
Following their 5-4 victory over White Knoll on Saturday, the Lady Panthers are in the driver’s seat to advance to the Class AAAA state championship series.
They await the winner of Wednesday’s elimination game between Summerville and Wando. Carolina Forest only needs to win one of two games on Friday.
