CF softball, CCU baseball’s party plans delayed by rain

April showers bring May flowers, and May showers bring the postponement of important sporting events.

The Carolina Forest softball team’s chance to celebrate a Class AAAA state championship was put on hold for a day after thunderstorms threatened the Grand Strand on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers hold a 1-0 advantage over Hillcrest in the best-of-three state title series, but will have to wait another night for the opportunity to clinch the program’s first-ever state championship in Friday’s Game 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Carolina Forest scored a 1-0 victory in Tuesday’s Game 1, which was originally scheduled for Monday. The Lady Panthers shut out Hillcrest on the road and have two shots to luck up the title. Game 3, if necessary, will likely be moved to Saturday or Sunday at a neutral site.

The Coastal Carolina baseball team was looking to lock up the Big South Conference regular season championship but also got washed out.

The Chanticleers’ game against Charleston Southern was postponed Thursday due to rain and lightning in the area. The teams will now play a Friday doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.

The Chants (15-5 Big South) can claim the regular-season title with a victory over the Bucs or a loss by second-place Campbell (13-8).
