The Grand Strand placed enough players on the South Carolina All-State baseball and softball teams to fill out its own nine-person diamond, and few teams could match up with this impressive lineup.
Six local baseball players and three area softball players made their respective rosters, with Carolina Forest and St. James leading the way with three all-state selections each.
Carolina Forest’s state finalist softball stars Marisa Runyon and Sara Sweatt and baseballer Erich Knab made the team, as did St. James baseball aces Preston Lane and Anders DeShields and softball catcher Erin Brown.
Also making the Class AAA all-state baseball squad were North Myrtle Beach’s Bill Seddinger and Socastee’s Charlie Nicholson. Conway’s G.K. Young earned a spot on the Class AAAA team.
