Gamecocks’ Geathers out six months with knee-cap injury

South Carolina men’s basketball redshirt-sophomore forward Carlton Geathers has sustained a right knee cap fracture, which will require surgery, and is expected to be out of practice and game action for a minimum of six months.

Geathers, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound product of Carvers Bay, suffered the injury in a summer pro-am league game in Columbia last Thursday, Gamecocks’ first-year head coach Frank Martin announced on Monday.

Geathers saw action in 28 contests with one start during his redshirt-freshman campaign of 2011-12, but he was expected to play a larger role in the upcoming season.

Geathers averaged 1.0 point, 1.5 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 7.8 minutes per contest. He could be available for the SEC portion of the schedule next year.
