Five Chants selected to play in summer all-star games

Coastal Carolina rising junior Jacob May headlines a list of Chanticleer baseball players making the All-Star team in their respective leagues. Will Remilard, signee Zach Remilard, Alex Buccilli and Ted Blackman have also been named All-Stars this summer.

May, playing for the Cotuit Kettlers, was named to the Cape Cod All-Star game, which will be played this Saturday (July 28) at Fenway Park, the historic home of the Boston Red Sox. May, who had a 16-game hit streak this summer, ranks 10th in the Cape Cod League with a.333 batting average, while ranking second in the league with 13 stolen bases in 30 games.

While he did not make the All-Star team, May’s teammate, both at Coastal and with Cotuit, Ryan Connolly is having an excellent summer. He is third in the league with 39 strikeouts, while walking just eight. His 16 appearances rank second in the league, while his 35.0 innings rank fourth. Connolly additionally carries a 2.57 ERA to rank 10th in the Cape Cod League.

The Remilards are playing for Albany in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, which plays its all-star game tonight.

Will Remilard, a rising sophomore catcher, sat out the 2012 season per NCAA regulations as he was a transfer from Temple. Will is batting .286 with 14 RBI and five stolen bases. Zach, a shortstop and freshman to be at Coastal, was taken by the Houston Astros in the 38th round with the 1,149th overall pick this past spring. He is third in the league with a .375 batting average, adding 12 doubles, three home runs, 29 RBI and nine stolen bases.

Buccilli, a rising senior who earned All-Big South honors this past season, was named an All-Star in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, playing for the Alexandria Aces. He ranks fifth in the league with seven home runs, while ranking ninth with 30 RBI and 14th with a .336 batting average. He additionally ranks third in the league with 33 walks and sixth in the league with 12 stolen bases.

Blackman, who will be a senior this coming season, is playing for Winter Park in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. Blackman owns a .247 batting average but has drawn 21 walks to rank fourth in the league. He additionally ranks sixth in the league with 13 stolen bases, while ranking seventh with 20 RBI.
