Riptides prep for states at Battle at the Beach meet

Riptides Racing Team traveled to Bolivia, NC, over the weekend for their final meet before the SC State Championships in mid-February.

The 2018 Battle at the Beach was the swimmers’ last chance to achieve state qualifying times. A squad of 16 swimmers competed on January 28-29, coming away with nine new state times, two new State Team members, and three team records broken.

Results for the Riptides are listed below:

* oshua Cassey: 2 best times, 1 first time swim, and 1 top ten finish.
* Connor Churchill: 4 best times, 2 new state cuts-50 and 100 freestyle, 5 top five finishes, and a new team record in the 100 free.
* Josh Crauder: 2 best times and a 20 second drop in the 200 free.
* Kara deBidart: 2 best times in the 50 fly and 100 breast.
* Tyce Desnoyers: 3 best times and a 12 second drop in the 50 fly.
* Jake Flaherty: 1 best time, 7 top five finishes, including a 1st in the 200 fly, and new team record in the 50 free.
* Emma Kinmartin: 4 best times, 2 first time swims, 1 top five finish, a 15+ second drop in the100 fly, and a 10+ second drop in the 200 breast.
* Mason Kinmartin: 6 best times, 7 top ten finishes with a 3rd in the 50 breast, and his first state cut in the 11-12 age group in 50 back.
* Hannah McDonough: 5 best times, 5 top five finishes with 1st places in the 400 IM and the 200 breast stroke, and a new state cut in the 200 IM.
* Kylie McWhorter: 6 best times, 2 top ten finishes with a 4th place in the 400 IM. and a 16 second drop with a 6th place in the 500 free.
* Maddox McWhorter: 3 best times in the 200 free, 50 free, and 50 fly.
* Peyton McWhorter: 4 best times, 8 top five finishes, and a 1st place and new team record in 50 free.
* Seth Riley: 7 best times, 5 top ten finishes with a 2nd in the 50 breast, and 2 new state cuts in the 100 IM and 50 breast.
* Ireland Rose: 3 best times and 3 top ten finishes with an 8th in the 50 breast.
* Mckenzie Washko: 5 best times, a 3rd in the 50 back, and 1 first time swim in the 100 back where she achieved her first ever state time.
* Kai Wilmot: 3 best times, 8 top ten finishes, and 2 new state cuts in the 100 IM and the 100 fly with an 8 second drop.

At the conclusion of this meet Riptides will be sending 10 swimmers to the State Championship: Connor Churhill, Jake Flahery, Mason Kinmartin, Hannah McDonough, Peyton McWhorter, Seth Riley, Ireland Rose, Mckenzie Washko, Kai Wilmont and Tony Zhang. Coaches Diane Cayce and Mary Churchill are pleased with the swimmers’ hard work and are looking forward to the State Championships.
