All-County Diamond Team: Best in baseball, softball

The Grand Strand is famous for its beautiful beaches, championship golf courses, and increasingly, its abundance of talent on the baseball and softball diamonds.

This year’s My Horry News All-County Baseball and Softball Teams are loaded at every position, particularly the standouts who were named the Pitchers and Players of the Year.

St. James graduate Nick Bray went 9-1 on the season with a 1.57 ERA to lead the Sharks to Class 4A Lower State finals and earn Pitcher of the Year honors.

Myrtle Beach’s Luke Edwards, who has signed to play on the next level at Marshall University, claimed Player of the Year after batting .423 as the Seahawks’ senior shortstop.

On the softball side. Lady Seahawks graduate Carly Grace Bodge was named Pitcher of the Year after posting a 17-5 record and a 1.20 ERA to lead Myrtle Beach to a region title.

Aynor rising senior Layna Johnson, the lone underclassman among the top award winners, claimed Player of the Year after batting .451 and helping the Lady Blue Jackets to region and district titles.

Coach of the Year honors went to St. James’ Robbie Centracchio in baseball and Myrtle Beach’s Meredith Jiorle in softball.
