Bailey heads list of four Lady Chants to earn BSC honors

Coastal Carolina volleyball team members Kindra Bailey, Gabriella Horvath, Eszter Nagy and Lauren Alejo were honored by the Big South Conference as part of its 2012 season awards, which the league announced on Wednesday.

Bailey was selected to the Big South all-conference first team, while Horvath and Nagy were named to the all-freshman team. In addition, Alejo was named to the all-academic team.

Bailey had 182 kills this season while recording a .303 hitting percentage. Her hitting percentage ranks her third in the league and she is also ranked fifth in the league in blocks per set (0.99) and seventh in service aces per set (0.33).  She was named the Big South Player of the Week on Oct. 15 and is a two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Bailey helped the Chants capture 10 regular season conference wins which doubled the win total from the 2011 season. Coastal also captured the No. 2 seed in the Big South Championship which is the highest seed for the Chants since 2004.  She is the first Coastal Carolina first team selection since Chelsy Kimes who earned the distinction at the end of the 2010 season.

Horvath and Nagy are the first all-freshman duo the Chants have produced since 2007 when Kimes and Megan Bickford were named to the all-freshman team. Kimes and Bickford went on to lead the Chants to the 2008 regular season title and the 2009 Big South Championship title. Horvath leads the Chants and is fifth in the conference with 306 kills and is third on the team in service aces with 22. She was named Big South Player of the Week on Oct. 1 and Big South Freshman of the Week on Oct. 29. Nagy ranks fourth on the team with 161 kills and fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.294). She is also second on the team  and tenth in conference in blocks with 64.

Alejo makes her second-straight appearance on the Big South All-Academic team. She carries a 3.891 GPA in biology and is one of two Chants to start every match this season. She leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference in assists per set with 8.58. She also ranks fourth on the team in service aces (21) and digs (202).
