Baseball: Panthers, Tigers knock off non-region rivals

conpbase-pitch2015 (2)The Carolina Forest and St. James baseball teams stepped out of tight region races to play Wednesday night, but the non-region rivalry was just as intense.

The Panthers lost the lead in the top of the seventh and regained it in the bottom half on a game-winning single by Jakob Frishmuth for a walk-off 7-6 victory over the visiting Sharks.

Tied at 5-all through six innings, St. James pushed across the go-ahead run but couldn’t hold the lead. Carolina Forest scored a pair of runs to get the win.

Hunter Baiden hit a two-run homer and Cameron Cauble went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Panthers. Ty King went 3-for-4 with a homer to pace the Sharks.

The two teams return to region play Friday with playoff positioning on the line. Carolina Forest plays at Conway while St. James visits Lake City.
