Baseball: Seahawks silence Tigers; Sharks blast Braves

sjbase-25For the second straight day the Myrtle Beach High baseball team used a strong starting pitching performance to down a local Class 5A rival, shutting out host Conway 5-0 on Thursday.

On the heels of the Seahawks’ 2-1 victory over Socastee on Wednesday thanks to starter Cameron Bodge’s complete game, Myrtle Beach got another stellar start from Lawson Cribb, who struck out five batters and scattered seven hits over six innings. Tyler Burgess closed out the fourth straight win for the Seahawks.

Jackson Thomas also had another big night at the plate after driving in the game-winner Wednesday. He had two hits, as did Cribb and Jonah McElheney, who had two RBIs apiece.

Conway tallied seven hits but couldn’t push a run across the plate.

* St. James 14, Socastee 4: The Sharks blasted the rival Braves via the mercy rule in five innings.

The Sharks used a balanced offensive attack with Parker Rabon (RBI, 3 runs scored), Trystan Freeman (RBI), Cam White (3 RBIs) and Andrew Leo (2 runs scored) with two hits apiece. Anthony Peck drove in four runs for St. James.

Socastee was held to four hits. St. James got starter Kolby Robtoy pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out five while walking two. Cam White came on to close it out.

* North Myrtle Beach 13, Aynor 3: The Chiefs scored early and often to blow out the Blue Jackets, including a three-run homer by Dalton Simpson that proved to be the knockout blow.

North Myrtle Beach starter Matt McKewan got plenty of offensive support for the win, and three Chiefs relievers helped close out the victory over the defending Class A state champs.

North Myrtle Beach’s Chase Hudson, Donald Hansis, Craig Matta and Dylan Doolittle each had a pair of hits for the Chiefs, who tallied 14 hits as a team. Aynor was limited to seven hits and was guilty of three errors.
